TYPHON-X
HIGH-CURRENT POWER DISTRIBUTOR

The Shunyata Research Typhon-X is a high-end audiophile power distributor engineered to optimize power delivery and reduce electrical noise in demanding audio systems. Combining Shunyata Research’s patented QR/BB™ energy-reserve technology with advanced TAPc electromagnetic noise reduction, the Typhon-X is designed to support powerful amplifiers, preamplifiers, DACs, phono stages, and other current-sensitive electronics.
Built for both high-performance home audio systems and professional recording environments, the Typhon-X focuses on two essential aspects of power distribution: delivering instantaneous current to demanding components and reducing noise that can interfere with audio performance. Its high-current internal wiring, proprietary 30A Amphenol connections, and advanced noise-control technologies make it a specialized power solution for serious audiophiles and audio professionals.
QR/BB™ ENERGY-RESERVE TECHNOLOGY
At the core of the Shunyata Research Typhon-X is an enhanced implementation of the patented QR/BB™ circuit. Designed to function as an instantaneous energy reserve within the AC power system, QR/BB makes peak energy more readily available to connected electronics during demanding musical passages.
This technology is particularly relevant to power amplifiers and other components that require substantial current during rapid dynamic changes. By focusing on Dynamic Transient Current Delivery, the Typhon-X is engineered to support impactful transients, greater perceived dynamic scale, and controlled musical reproduction under demanding conditions.
TAPc™ ELECTROMAGNETIC NOISE REDUCTION
The Typhon-X incorporates Shunyata Research’s TAPc™ (Transverse Axial Polarizer) technology, a patent-pending approach designed to reduce electromagnetic distortion associated with electrical and signal conductors.
TAPc passively couples to surrounding electromagnetic fields to help reduce noise-related effects that Shunyata Research associates with perceived glare and dynamic compression. Used alongside QR/BB, TAPc makes the Typhon-X a power distributor designed to address both current delivery and electromagnetic noise in high-performance audio systems.
ADVANCED POWER NOISE REDUCTION TECHNOLOGIES
Beyond QR/BB and TAPc, the Shunyata Research Typhon-X incorporates several proprietary technologies intended to manage power-line noise while preserving current delivery.
NIC™ (Noise Isolation Chamber): Patented technology designed to reduce high-frequency power-line noise without the reactive characteristics associated with conventional transformers, chokes, coils, or large capacitors.
CCI™ (Component-to-Component Interference): Micro-filtering technology designed to reduce noise generated by connected components and limit its transfer to other electronics without inhibiting Dynamic Transient Current Delivery.
DTCD® Analysis: Shunyata Research’s proprietary measurement technique for evaluating instantaneous current flow through low-impedance conductors and electrical contacts.
KPIP v2™: Kinetic Phase Inversion Process applied to conductor and terminal metals, with four days of processing specified for the Typhon-X.
Together, these technologies reflect Shunyata Research’s approach to high-performance power distribution: managing electrical noise while maintaining the low-impedance current paths required by demanding audio equipment.
DESIGNED FOR HIGH-CURRENT POWER AMPLIFIERS
The Shunyata Research Typhon-X is designed for systems where power amplifiers and other current-sensitive components require substantial current delivery. Its proprietary 30A Amphenol twist-lock input and output connections feature precision-machined solid tellurium-copper contact surfaces, designed to provide low contact resistance.
An internal 6-gauge ArNi® VTX-Ag™ bus system supports the distributor’s high-current design. These features make the Typhon-X particularly suited to power amplifiers, amplifier and preamplifier combinations, and selected DAC or phono-stage systems.
The Typhon-X can be used with compatible 15A, 20A, or 30A wall circuits, subject to the electrical requirements of the specific model and installation. Its maximum continuous input-current rating varies by regional version.
IMPORTANT: The proprietary Amphenol connections require specifically compatible power cables. Shunyata Research offers dedicated T30-X power cables for this application. Cable and connector compatibility should be confirmed before installation.
THREE ISOLATION ZONES AND COMPONENT NOISE MANAGEMENT
The Typhon-X features three isolation zones designed to help manage noise between connected components. Its noise-suppression specifications state reductions of more than 50 dB from input to output and more than 40 dB between zones across the 100 kHz–30 MHz range.
This architecture is intended to help prevent electrical noise from one connected component from contaminating the power supplied to others. For complex high-end systems, this approach supports a cleaner power-distribution arrangement for amplifiers and associated electronics.
ENGINEERED FOR HOME AUDIO AND PROFESSIONAL STUDIOS
The Shunyata Research Typhon-X is designed for more than conventional domestic hi-fi systems. Its high-current capability and power-noise management technologies also make it suitable for professional applications involving recording consoles, monitor systems, and guitar amplifiers.
In a high-end home audio system, it can serve as a dedicated power distributor for amplifiers or as part of a carefully configured system incorporating two or three components. In professional environments, it provides a high-current power-distribution solution for equipment where dynamic performance and noise management are important considerations.
PREMIUM CONSTRUCTION AND VIBRATION CONTROL
The Typhon-X combines a rigid aluminum chassis with an anodized, brushed aluminum faceplate. Internal vibration-dampening panels, AC outlet dampening gaskets, and Shunyata Isolation SSF-38 footers contribute to its mechanical design.
Available in silver or black, the Typhon-X has a substantial yet rack-friendly footprint for integration into a dedicated listening room, equipment rack, or professional audio setup.
