ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT Tancast 8 PLINTH

The foundation of the Planar 8 is its Tancast 8 polyurethane foam-core plinth, a material originally developed for aerospace applications.

SUPER FLYWHEEL EFFECT TRIPLE-LAYER GLASS PLATTER

The Planar 8 features Rega's Super Flywheel Effect triple-layer glass platter, developed in collaboration with a British glass engineering company.

The three-piece laminated construction uses two different high-quality Pilkington glasses and is designed to place greater mass toward the outer rim of the platter while keeping the inner section comparatively light without compromising rigidity.

This carefully controlled mass distribution creates a strong flywheel effect that supports consistent platter rotation and speed stability while avoiding unnecessary load on the main bearing.

PRECISION HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY

The Planar 8 uses a low-mass central bearing assembly incorporating a single-piece machined aluminium sub-platter and hardened tool-steel spindle running inside a custom brass housing.

The bearing housing is mounted within the chassis using a design intended to reduce the transfer and storage of unwanted mechanical energy within the plinth.

24 V LOW-NOISE MOTOR ASSEMBLY

The Planar 8 incorporates Rega's latest-generation 24 V synchronous low-vibration motor technology.

Its DSP-based generator uses a high-stability crystal reference to produce the precise frequency required to control platter speed. The system generates a highly accurate sinusoidal waveform to drive the 24 V motor while helping isolate the turntable from variations in mains power.

It features a rigid PPS body, hand-wound micro-coil, Vital-profile nude diamond stylus, high-powered neodymium magnet, and Rega's three-point mounting system.

APHETA 3 MOVING COIL CARTRIDGE

The Rega Apheta 3 is another factory-fitted Moving Coil option for the Planar 8.

REMOVABLE SINGLE-PIECE DUSTCOVER

The Planar 8 removes the outer frame used by the previous RP8 and introduces a removable single-piece dustcover.
