Developed by Rega’s design team under the direction of Roy Gandy, the Planar 3 represents one of the most significant evolutions of Rega’s iconic “Three” series.
Replacing the award-winning RP3, the Planar 3 was developed over two years and redesigned almost entirely from the ground up. Its combination of a lightweight rigid plinth, precision RB330 tonearm, low-vibration 24 V motor, double-brace technology, and 12 mm Optiwhite glass platter creates a highly controlled platform for serious vinyl playback.
The result is a turntable engineered around a simple principle: reduce unwanted energy and resonance so more of the information stored in the record reaches your ears.
PRECISION ENGINEERED FOR VINYL
Rega's design philosophy centers on lightweight, rigid construction rather than excessive mass. The Planar 3 uses a lightweight acrylic-laminated plinth reinforced with an improved double-brace system.
The braces are positioned specifically between the tonearm mounting point and the main hub bearing, creating a rigid structural assembly that helps prevent unwanted energy from being absorbed by or transmitted through the plinth.
This carefully controlled construction minimizes resonance and mechanical interference, providing a stable foundation for accurate vinyl reproduction.
RB330 PRECISION TONEARM
At the heart of the Planar 3 is the RB330 precision tonearm, developed using advanced 3D CAD and CAM technology and backed by more than 35 years of Rega tonearm engineering.
The RB330 features a redesigned bearing housing and optimized tonearm tube with intelligently distributed mass to reduce potential resonance points. High-precision bearing assemblies provide exceptionally stable, low-friction movement, allowing the tonearm to track the record groove with remarkable precision.
The result is improved retrieval of low-level information, timing, imaging, and musical detail from your vinyl collection.
DOUBLE-BRACE TECHNOLOGY
The Planar 3's double-brace technology reinforces the critical areas between the tonearm and main bearing.
A thicker 3 mm phenolic bottom brace is combined with a metalized-skin phenolic top brace to increase structural rigidity where it matters most. Rather than adding unnecessary mass across the entire plinth, Rega concentrates reinforcement at key structural points.
This approach helps control unwanted resonance while maintaining the lightweight architecture that defines the Planar design philosophy.
24 V LOW-VIBRATION MOTOR
The Planar 3 incorporates a 24 V low-noise, low-vibration motor with an improved motor-control PCB and anti-vibration circuitry.
The motor system is designed to minimize mechanical interference with the platter and record, supporting stable rotational performance and clean musical reproduction.
The Planar 3 is also compatible with the optional Rega Neo turntable power supply, providing an upgrade path for users seeking enhanced electronic speed control and further motor performance refinement.
12 MM OPTIWHITE GLASS PLATTER
A precision-manufactured 12 mm Optiwhite float-glass platter provides a rigid and stable platform for vinyl playback.
Its polished edge delivers a distinctive premium appearance while the accurately manufactured platter supports consistent record rotation and contributes to the Planar 3's overall mechanical precision.
An Advanced EBLT drive belt is fitted as standard, further supporting accurate and consistent platter rotation.
PRECISION MAIN BEARING AND SUB-PLATTER
The Planar 3 features a redesigned brass main hub and central bearing assembly, engineered for improved fit, accuracy, and stiffness.
The redesigned sub-platter further improves rotational accuracy and structural rigidity, creating a stable mechanical foundation between the motor, platter, and record.
IMPROVED ISOLATION
Newly developed feet improve the Planar 3's stability while helping reduce vibration transfer between the turntable and supporting surface.
Combined with the rigid lightweight plinth, precision bearing, low-vibration motor, and isolated structural design, the isolation system contributes to a cleaner and more focused presentation.
REGA ND CARTRIDGE OPTIONS
The Planar 3 can be supplied with a factory-fitted Rega Nd3 MM cartridge or upgraded Rega Nd5 MM cartridge, allowing customers to choose a configuration suited to their system and listening preferences.
Factory fitting also provides a convenient route to a properly integrated vinyl playback system with minimal setup requirements.
SIMPLE SETUP, SERIOUS PERFORMANCE
Despite its precision engineering, the Planar 3 is designed to be straightforward to install and use. A multilingual quick-start guide is supplied to make setup simple, while the included clear dust cover helps protect the turntable when not in use.
