Unlike fast, off-the-shelf solutions, the LinQ embodies Aqua’s philosophy of in-house development and meticulous engineering, resulting in a streamlined, long-life platform focused exclusively on high-performance audio playback.
The LinQ is a highly modular device, built from a series of completely independent modules, each optimized for a specific function and equipped with its own dedicated power supply. These modules connect directly to the base platform, ensuring not only optimal performance but also exceptional upgrade potential for future enhancements. All communication lines between modules and the network are galvanically isolated, and further isolation is provided by an internally developed LAN switch module. This unique architecture, confirmed by both listening and laboratory tests, delivers superior audio results.
To maintain the highest sound quality, the LinQ bypasses USB interfaces entirely, outputting via AQlink, Aqua’s proprietary I2S connection. This approach eliminates potential losses in sound quality associated with USB transmission. Additionally, proprietary circuits within the output FPGA enable S/PDIF, AES/EBU, and Dual-AES outputs for maximum flexibility.
At the heart of the LinQ is a no-compromise audio engine featuring HQPlayer Core and NAA (cascade-modules), ensuring the device remains future-proof and free from obsolescence. The Core leverages the powerful i.MX8 microprocessor (ARM 64-bit) for outstanding performance, low latency, and exceptional power efficiency, all running on a custom lightweight UNIX-based kernel.
LinQ is designed for seamless integration with Roon, allowing HQPlayer to serve as the final connection to the audio engine while Roon manages your music library and streaming services like Qobuz and Tidal. This setup delivers the renowned sound quality of HQPlayer alongside Roon’s intuitive library management. The LinQ Core is truly plug-and-play, with the HQPlayer Embedded license pre-installed and ready for immediate use.
Staying true to Aqua’s brand philosophy, the HQPlayer-based LinQ Core is dedicated to pure audio performance, without unnecessary digital signal processing, ensuring an uncompromised listening experience.

The LinQ features a proprietary, fully floating hybrid 2-stage Network + FPGA module with custom-developed code, ensuring top-tier performance and flexibility. It offers four slots for future-proof network protocol modules, with current options including HQPlayer Core + NAA (cascade-modules) for a no-compromise audio engine with Roon, HQPlayer NAA Renderer, UPnP DLNA Renderer, and Squeezelite Renderer. TIDAL Connect Renderer is also in development and will be available soon.
The system is fully optimized at the UNIX code level, running only the essential processes needed for HQPlayer Embedded and the Audio Engine for Roon. An internally developed, isolated LAN switch ensures robust and interference-free network connectivity. The LinQ delivers pure, bit-perfect FPGA signal processing and features the uncompromising AQlink PRO digital interface (I2S protocol) for superior audio transmission.
The output stage is galvanically isolated and upgradable, while two separate low-noise C-Core power transformers independently supply the network circuitry and digital decoding sections. The modular, upgradeable multi-board platform supports Qobuz, Tidal, and other major streaming services.
With zero setup required, users have direct access to the Network Module via a key and optional RC5 IR remote. High-quality components are used throughout for optimal performance.
